Congrats are in order for Miss Tiffany Haddish. The Girls Trip star is set to debut a brand new one-hour stand-up special on Netflix early next year, Variety reports.
“Tiffany Haddish is a force,” said Lisa Nishimura, vice president of original documentary and comedy for Netflix. “Hilariously funny, brash and self-effacing, she’s an incredible artist who is winning over audiences while breaking barriers, and we are tremendously proud that she will showcase her formidable talent on Netflix.”
Tiffany has had quite the year. Since her breakout role in the 2017 comedy Girls Trip, she released her first book, The Last Black Unicorn. She debuted in her first stand-up special, Tiffany Haddish: She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood, on Showtime. She also hosted the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, stared in a number of films, and if that wasn't enough to keep her busy she is set to star in three more movies this year — “Night School,” alongside Kevin Hart, "The Oath," and, "Nobody's Fool."
News of Tiffany's Netflix special comes just days after the comedian came under fire for a joke she made at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. While discussing Camila Cabello's success, Tiffany threw shade at the singer's former group members. “Camila Cabello is here nominated for 5 awards. So those of you watching at home… Hi Fifth Harmony," she said.
Many people took offense to the joke, one person being Nicki Minaj. Immediately after Tiffany's monologue, she announced Nicki as the winner for Best Hip-Hop Video and the "Chun-Li" rapper ripped her a new one while accepting her award. “Don’t be coming for Fifth Harmony because Normani is that b*tch,” Nicki told Tiffany while on stage.
Fifth Harmony member, Lauren Jauregui also tweeted: “Waiting for the day when supporting one successful dope woman does not mean insult to other successful dope women. There is energy and space for us all to beautifully coexist and bless the world with our individual truths, stories and talents.”
